Ok, I'm low tech...extremely low tech, so I can't open and view the route. Are we going out Route 6 and stopping at the "Waffle House" rest stop? Just checking if I should eat breakfast or wait for a "waffle". Really looking forward to this ride. The weather looks like it'll cooperate and not dump buckets of moisture down upon us......so HOOOOOOOYYYYYAAAAAHHHH!!!

Original route didn't go by the Waffle Stop, but due to the storm I will re-work the day one route to stay on major roads at least until we get close to our destination. I may work in the waffle place as the first stop...I'll let you know.

Main road route may be better since they will be cleared sooner and therefore safer so I tend to agree with Bob. We can save the bold route for the next run to East coast.

Any recommendations on how to pack? Do you expect it to be cold in the mountains this time of year, based on previous rides? I'm limited to just a backpack to carry everything. First I pack the cigars and tidy whities and then see how much space is left.

BLUF: I'm riding solo so I have extra room on my bagger if you need me to carry something...let me know before Saturday so I can leave you some space.

Bring rain gear for sure. if you don't have waterproof gloves or waterproof boots, bring some plastic shopping bags to wrap your feet., and bring extra socks and extra gloves. You can wear surgical gloves under your regular gloves for a makeshift waterproof glove. Might want to bring some walkin' around shoes (sneakers or flip-flops), especially if your moto-boots get wet.

I usually wear the same jeans all weekend, but I bring a second pair in case the first pair gets wet/dirty.

My pack will have something like this:

Extra riding gloves
flip-flops
Shorts
Extra pr. of jeans
3-4 pair of socks
2-3 drawers
2 t-shirts.
Sunblock
Sunglasses
Camera
Sundries (meds, eyedrops, etc)
Phone charger
Can Coozie
Cigars and accessories

As far as cold, hopefully your jacket has vents you can close...that should be enough. If it's a mesh jacket you may get cool for a little while, but it won't be freezing or anything. Temps vary, but not usually enough to require stopping to adjust. The big variable will be if it's wet/raining...then you can have some serious chilling. If you have waterproof gear you should be okay.

$.02

Here's a roll up of all the riders who are planning to do chase the sun....let me know if I missed anyone:
Billy, Les, Reaper, Bob Ellis, Tuyosi, Mark Pratt, Aaron, Krash, Wendell, Freeman, Bang (Greg D.), Allen

Les,

I also have Greg L (Loggie) and Nate Boeger (rides the BMW). Of course, now it looks like Doug may be able to go. Those 3 already paid for the SBU event. Wendell mentioned he was going and planned to be at the meeting that was cancelled.

So I am counting about 16 bikes.

Of course, our buddy Jack will be riding along with a few of us

You can mark Sun Hwa and me as confirmed for the ride. See you all at the Foodcourt Saturday morning for low cholesterol breakfast and a great ride. >

I just want to state here for all the witnesses, I will NOT give B2 mouth-to-mouth if needed. I'm pretty sure that's in our by-laws as a Road Captain responsibility.

B2,
I went ahead and installed a pair of paddles on your GoldWing and wired them up to the battery. You are now cleared to ride with us on the Chase The Sun.

Ok, now maybe I am glad I am NOT making this ride...no mouth to mouth from THIS road captain!

Also, Doug...stop using Cialis. The blood belongs in your HEART, not the "other" thumping thing.

Glad to hear you are doing well, got your texts, wasn't able to sneak away from work.

Have a great ride guys. CYA in a few weeks.

Mark,

I mounted my tour pak, so I've got extra storage space available. I can carry stuff for you, so don't leave essentials behind due to a lack of storage space. Pack it in a trash back, bungy cord it to your backseat to get it to post, then we can pack it on Les' and my scoots.

Mark,

I mounted my tour pak, so have space available to carry some of your stuff. Pack what you need and don't worry about it. Put it in a trash bag and bungy cord it to your backseat to get it to post. Between Les and I we can carry it for you. Don't leave essentials behind, it can ruin a good time.

Krash - thanks for the offer. I think I'll be OK between my back pack and saddle bags, but if I run out of space, I'll be the guy with the trash bag!

Les - Due to a pending DV visit and very poor planning on the part of the organizers, I am going to be working this project all Sat, Sun and Monday. I am having to cancel out of the Chase the Sun Run. At least it is not my Birthday like it was last year. I envy you guys, I agree that this is the one run you don't want to miss. Good Luck and ride safely out there I will try to swing by the Town House before you leave to wish you well.

Freeman,

Sorry you can't make it...was great having you along last year and celebrating your birthday.

All...

I'm planning to go the original route. We will detour to a main road if necessary. The waffle stop is NOT on the way, so you may want to get some chow at the Town House before we depart.

I believe I posted the route files earlier in this thread. If not I'll put them up in my next post here.

Again, Safety brief at 0650 as planned. Departure at Conclusion of safety brief or 0700, whichever is later.

We will be meeting Tuyosi at gate 52.
